Bikini Area Waxing First Time

If you like to keep certain parts of your body hair free and want to wax your bikini area yourself for the first time, you are probably feeling nervous about working with the hot wax. If you have had a professional bikini wax before, you will know that it can be painful. Even if you have never had one, you will no doubt have heard from other women how uncomfortable it is.

First, relax! Any pain or discomfort is fleeting and it is well worth it for the smooth, hair-free surface that waxing your bikini area will bring you. Shaving is quick and easy, but the hair may start to grow back as soon as the following day. After waxing the bikini line, the hair is guaranteed to stay away for at least a few weeks.

To make bikini waxing less painful, use hard wax. This is a particular type of wax that goes on warm and then hardens so that it does not need to be removed with a strip. It makes the process less painful because it effectively “shrink wraps” the hair, which makes it comes out easier.

Your first task is to make sure you have all the necessary supplies. To wax the bikini line, you will need hard wax, wax warmer, pre-wax cleanser, pre-epilation oil, square-edge applicators, wax remover for the skin (baby oil or petroleum jelly will do the job just as well), and after-wax lotion or an aloe based gel. Make sure you have at least an hour to complete the process.

1-Grow your bikini hair to at least a quarter inch long, but not too long! If it is longer than half an inch, trim it with hair clippers.
2-Clean the skin around your bikini line with the pre-wax cleanser. Apply the pre-epilation oil next, taking care not too use too much; a little goes a long way.
3-Apply the hard wax. Use your applicator and apply an even layer in the direction opposite to that of the hair growth. Then apply a layer in the same direction of the hair growth. Make sure you cover all the hair and then apply a small amount to hairless skin; this part will help you remove the hardened wax.
4-Push up a small part of the wax at the edge to create a tab that you can use to pull off the entire coating. Hold your skin taut with one hand and use the other hand to remove the wax, moving in the direction opposite to that of the hair growth. Use one fast movement and pull to the side, not upward. Repeat the process on each side of your bikini area until all the hair has been removed.
5-Use tweezers to pull any small hairs you may have missed.
6-Clean the skin around the bikini area and take off any remaining wax with the remover. Apply after-wax lotion or a soothing aloe based gel.
Most women find that the more they wax, the more comfortable the process becomes. Once you are used to waxing your bikini line, you will never go back to shaving!
